Sustainable Advocacy Network for Awareness and Development (SANAD) was founded in 2008 as a grassroots civil society organization working to advocate for better lives of the vulnerable in local communities, and to empower women, youth, and children through better education, livelihood support, and rights — including women's participation in governance.
We also work to enhance transparency and accountability in the utilization of state funds by state actors, through monitoring and awareness campaigns.
SANAD is registered with the appropriate legal government institutions in Sierra Leone and banked with commercial banks. We are a gender-sensitive organization with 15+ functional staff and community volunteers, and have increased female representation in our administration.
What We Do
Advocacy, dialogue, and skills for those least heard
We advocate for the most vulnerable children, youth, and voiceless women in society to engage in meaningful skills training, and raise awareness of issues affecting their communities. Children's education is one of our primary goals. We work to make sure the voiceless in society are heard, through continuous engagement and dialogue with the appropriate authorities.

Promoting human rights, gender equality, and inclusive participation, with a focus on vulnerable and marginalized groups.
GBV Prevention & Response
Working to prevent gender-based violence and support survivors, through community awareness and referral to appropriate services.

Advancing women's economic independence and leadership through skills development, entrepreneurship, and governance participation.
Community Mobilization & Grassroots Engagement
Building on strong local relationships to mobilize communities around shared priorities and locally led solutions.

Supporting locally led climate action and climate-resilient livelihoods, with attention to gender and community adaptation.

Our Vision
We are dedicated to raising up a generation with strong skills in leadership, for the empowerment of rural people and communities — through innovative thematic projects targeting youth, children, women, and vulnerable people.
Our Mission
SANAD is committed to the sustainable empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable groups in education, health, culture, agriculture, food security, and the use of natural resources — to meet the demands of future generations.
Our Projects
Three community initiatives, currently underway

Youth Livelihood & Empowerment Project
This project has two aspects. The first involves youth in collecting waste and transforming it into other useful goods for community use — work that also carries environmental and climate importance, since clearing waste from drainages helps water flow freely and reduces flooding in the rainy season. The second aspect brings female youth into empowerment skills training, working toward catering services.

Community Accountability Project
This project engages local councils on their development projects, to see whether the prescribed beneficiaries — the communities themselves — actually benefit from the utilization of state funds.

Community Livelihood Project
This project engages community women, men, and youth in agricultural activities, with training on different farming methods — supporting food security and economic resilience.
